Manner

For most of the words in this frame, some expression of Manner or Medium is obligatory. As in other frames, Manner expressions characterize the action (in this case, the speech act performed by the Speaker). However, a wide range of Manner expressions occurs in this frame, including the following types: True Manner: You should phrase it carefully. Illocutionary Force: You should phrase it as a question. Purpose: You should phrase it so that everyone understands.
